At NextAfter, we have a monthly live broadcast in which we present findings from the research we conduct with nonprofits, break down tests and experiments, and explore trends that demonstrate what makes a donor give.
We wanted to add a phone number field to our live broadcast sign-up form, but not at the expense of losing attendees.

This experiment has a required sample size of 3,710 in order to be valid. Unfortunately, the required sample size was not met and a level of confidence above 95% was not met so the experiment results are not valid.
Key Learnings
We did not reach a significant level of confidence to conclude that adding the phone number field made a difference in conversion. If anything, the results pointed to a higher conversion rate with the phone number.
Moving forward, we will keep the phone number field knowing that it does not create significant enough friction in the sign up process to affect our attendance numbers, and it gives us another way to keep in touch with our attendees.
